$lut Shame
What did I do, to deserve this blame?
You find fault in my dress, and call me names.
Judged for my friends, who happen to be men,
My skin tone, you say, reveals my character,
But isn’t it your gaze that’s truly sinister?
In a world where freedom should reign,
Why must I bear this unjust shame?
Got side eyes for my promotion,
Labeled a bad mom for keeping my job,
Badmouthed just for laughing louder.
He cheated,
I got called a homewrecker,
Stood up for myself, named arrogant
Reached the saturation point—
I stopped wanting to be understood.
As generations passed, the definition of slut evolved
but never stopped
And the list goes on
Still, I hold my head high,
Refusing to be bound by these shallow labels,
My spirit unbroken, my worth undiminished.
